  • Troubleshooting: Tickets not scanning

It's either a scanner problem or a ticket problem. Try the following tests.

Can you scan barcodes from another source?

Your scanner should be able to read other barcodes too. Try opening Windows Notepad and scanning a reliably-printed barcode, like the proof of purchase or UPC barcode on a soda can or other product. If nothing scans, then you have a scanner problem. Make sure that the scanner is attached to the keyboard port, not to the mouse port.

Can you scan the troublesome tickets into Notepad?

Open Windows Notepad and try scanning the troublesome tickets. If they scan into Notepad, then Bundle-Track is rejecting the tickets for one of the following reasons:

    • The ticket has already been scanned into Bundle-Track (and there are no outstanding Split units left on the ticket). This is proper behavior: it prevents double payment for the same ticket. If you wish to locate the prior ticket scan, perform a lookup with the Adjustments tool.

    • The Cut associated with the Ticket has been deleted (or the Cut's parent Lot has been deleted). This is proper behavior: Bundle-Track will reject tickets associated with deleted Cuts. If you restore the Cut, you should then be able to scan the tickets.

    Does the ticket look OK?

If the ticket is obviously misprinting, click here to troubleshoot misprinting, and then try scanning again.

    Check the Printer Object Configuration

Make sure that the Printer Object representing your ticket printer is configured according to Bundle-Track's Ticket Printer Object Property requirements.

    Check the Printer Ribbon

If the tickets are printing too lightly, you may need to replace the printer ribbon.

Try adjusting the Printer's Impact Head Control Arm

As printer ribbons age, the lines they produce tend to change from thicker to thinner. Barcodes will be unreadable if the lines that make up the barcodes are too thick or too thin.

Using your printer's Impact Head Control Arm, try adjusting the position of the Impact Head. This should change the amount of ink that is transferred to the page with each character impact.

Note that the control arm may move the head in a manner opposite of what is expected. If adjusting the print head control makes the printer lock up, try moving the arm the other way.
