Network Edition:
Setup:
Relocation or Re-Installation
of Server Only
Important Notice: This procedure is for re-installations
and relocations only. If you are installing for the first time,
please use the Installation procedure
instead.
Use this procedure if you are relocating only the Bundle-Track
Server (database system), not a Client (user interface).
(Related procedures: Server and
Client, Client Only)
What you will need:
- Administrative access to the old and new servers
- Your Bundle-Track Installation Package
- If you are changing the network path to your Token
Directory, you will need a new executable. Determine the directory's
new network path, and then contact Bundle-Track Support to tell
us you are changing your Token Directory. We will provide you
with a new executable encoded with the new path.
Procedure:
- Run the Bundle-Track installation package on the new machine.
- If you wish to install into c:\Program Files\Bundle-Track\,
accept all defaults presented by the install wizard. Otherwise,
on any panel that gives you the option, change the default
filepath.
- On the 'Select Components' panel, ...
- Uncheck 'Client for Windows'
- Accept all other defaults.
- Confirm that you can open the InterBase Server Manager. Click
here for the procedure.
- Determine where your Bundle-Track database
files are currently located and whether you are going to move
them. (You can use BT Links to discover
their locations.) If you decide these need to be relocated,
do this:
- Have all users of Bundle-Track Clients exit Bundle-Track.
- On the old Bundle-Track Server machine, stop
the InterBase Server. THIS STEP
IS CRITICALLY IMPORTANT. FAILURE TO SHUT DOWN THE INTERBASE
SERVER CAN RESULT IN AN UNRECOVERABLE DATABASE CORRUPTION.
- Move the database files to their new location.
- Go to each Bundle-Track Client machine and run the Bundle-Track
Links utility to prepare/update
your database connections.
- Tell your Bundle-Track users they may return to Bundle-Track.
- Copy the User Accounts database to the new server:
- On the old machine, locate the file named isc4.gdb.
- It is typically found in ..\Program Files\Borland\Interbase\
, but if you can't find it there, do a broader search
with the windows Find/Search tool.
- Stop
the InterBase Server on the old machine.
- Copy isc4.gdb into the new server's ..\Program Files\Borland\Interbase\
directory.
- Run any Bundle-Track Client to confirm proper operation. (If
necessary, troubleshoot.)
- Register the database in IB
Console on the new server:
(This is to prepare for future database
maintenance. You may postpone this step if you wish.)
- Start IB Console:
>> Programs >> InterBase 6 (the name may be longer)
>> IBConsole.
- Register the Server. Click
here for the procedure.
- Register the database. Click
here for the procedure.
- If you want to be able to access the database through IB
Console on any other Client machines, go to each of these
machines and register the database there too - or, if the
database is already registered there, use the database's Properties
page to update the registered filepath.
- List the Server in its own Hosts file. Click
here for the procedure.
- On the old machine, uninstall Bundle-Track
and delete the Bundle-Track directory.
That's it.
