Excess (Cost Breakdown area)
What you see under Excess in these Department Analysis reports is
basically any pay that was neither On-Standard Earned nor Makeup, such
as Adjustments or Hourly pay. These amounts are sometimes called
"non-productive labor costs" because they typically represent
overhead costs that do not directly produce salable value. (In contrast,
on-standard piecework activity typically generates increased
value for the company in terms of generated salable product.)
