  • Troubleshooting: Recent Data missing after Backup/Restore

Symptom: After the Backup/Restore process, the database is missing all data posted since the previous Backup/Restore.

Cause: Typically, this indicates that the backup file specified by the user in the restore process was not the most recently-created backup file.

Resolution 1: Locate the correct backup file and restore from it:

    1. Locate the correct backup file.
      • Note that you may have saved the file to a different directory than you intended.
      • You can use the Windows Find/Search utility to look for any files named '*.gbk'.
      • Check the file date on any candidate files.
    2. Perform a Restore Only process, and make very sure you are selecting the correct backup file (not another one from another directory).
    3. Run Bundle-Track to check the data.

Resolution 2: If you archived a copy of your database in your Backup/Restore process, you can put your archived database back in place and Backup and Restore from that:

    1. Locate the archived database file.
      • Note that you may have saved the file to a different directory than you intended.
      • You can use the Windows Find/Search utility to look for any files named '*.gdb' (or '*.ib').
      • Check the file date on any candidate files.
    2. Use InterBase Server Manager to stop the InterBase Server.
    3. Rename the defective database file you currently have in place. (Be sure to pick the right one!)
    4. Put the archived database file in place of the database you just renamed, and give it the proper name (usually 'BT30600Prod.gdb').
    5. Use InterBase Server Manager to start the InterBase Server.
    6. Start Bundle-Track and confirm that you have placed the correct data file back into service.
    7. Exit Bundle-Track.
    8. Perform the Backup/Restore process again, and pay close attention to all filepaths:
      • When Backing up, make sure you are writing the backup file where you want it to go.
      • When Restoring, make sure you are selecting the correct backup file (not one from another directory).
    9. Run Bundle-Track to check the data.
