  • Troubleshooting: "General SQL error. exception 24 You cannot close a period on an empty frozen dataset."

General SQL error. exception 24 You cannot close a period on an empty frozen dataset.

Note. There are other errors that begin with "General SQL error." This article addresses only those indicating "exception 24".

This message, encountered when attempting to close a pay period, indicates that there are no records in the frozen dataset. Possible reasons:

    • No events have been entered for Employees belonging to this Pay Group in the current Pay Period.
    • There was a problem in the freeze pay process.

If the dataset is empty because no events have been entered for this Pay Group in this timeframe, you can resolve this as follows:

    1. Unfreeze pay for the Pay Group involved.
    2. Insert one Event with zero hours under any Employee in the associated Pay Group, on any date within that Pay Period.
    3. Freeze pay for the Pay Group.
    4. Try closing the Pay Group's period again.

If you believe that there are events entered and the frozen dataset should not be empty, try unfreezing and freezing again, this time following this protocol for safely freezing pay, and then try closing the Pay Group again.
