  • Troubleshooting: "General SQL error. I/O error for file "<filepath>" ..."

General SQL error. I/O error for file "<filepath>" Error while trying to write to file The device does not recognize the command.

    ... or ...

General SQL error. I/O error for file "<filepath>" Error while trying to open file The data is invalid.

Note: There are other errors that begin with "General SQL error." This article addresses those indicating "I/O error".

Note: In the error message, <filepath> is not the database filepath, but rather the path of a temporary index file associated with the database.

You may find that you encounter this error only when logged into the computer with a non-administrator login. If that's the case, try granting that user permissions explicitly on the directory named in the error message's <filepath>.
