Bundle-Track Speed: Server's Hosts file
should list Server
Listing the Server in its own Hosts file can cut connection time
for interactions with the Bundle-Track database.
- On the Bundle-Track Server machine, identify the Machine
Name (the name that identifies this machine on the network).
- On the Bundle-Track Server machine, determine whether
you have a Hosts file. Look in the following locations:
- Windows 95/98/Me: c:\windows\hosts
- Windows NT/2000/XP Pro: c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
- Windows XP Home: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
- Did you find the file?
- If you did find the file, open it with Notepad.
(You may need administrator access)
- If you did NOT find the file, create one now:
- Click
here to open a starter Hosts file. (This will open
in a new window.)
- Using the File menu on that newly opened window, Save
the file to the directory appropriate for your operating
system (see the directories listed above).
- Locate that newly saved file and rename it to 'Hosts'
instead of 'Hosts.txt'.
- Open the file in Notepad.
- At the bottom of the file (past all the lines that begin with
'#'), look for a line that ends with the Server's Machine Name.
- Did you find your Machine Name listed?
- If YES, then there's nothing more to do here. Go
to the Last Step.
- If NO, then add a line to represent it:
- Insert your IP address under the other(s).
- Need to know how to identify your IP Address? Click
Here.
- Tab to the right, and enter your Machine Name under
the other(s).
- Save and close the Hosts file.
