  • Setup: Rebuilding Bundle-Track BDE and ODBC Aliases

You can rebuild the ODBC and BDE objects manually as follows:

    1. Log into the machine with an Administrator login.

    2. Remove the ODBC aliases for BT30600PROD and BT30600TEST:
      1. Access the ODBC Data Source Administrator:
        • Use the Windows menu to select Settings / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Data Sources (ODBC).
      2. Go to the System DSN tab.
      3. Delete the System Data Sources named BT30600PROD and BT30600TEST.
      4. (Leave the ODBC Data Source Administrator open.)

    3. Capture the SERVER NAME value from the BDE alias for later use:
      1. Open the BDE Administrator:
        • Use the Windows menu to select Settings / Control Panel / BDE Administrator.
      2. Find the BDE alias named BT30600PROD.
      3. Record the string you find in its SERVER NAME field.
        • If you cannot find the field or its value, reconstruct it with the following syntax:
          • ServerName:DriveLetter:\path\databasename
          • example: 'OurServer:c:\Program Files\Bundle-Track\Databases\BT30600PROD.gdb'

    4. Delete the BT30600PROD and BT30600TEST BDE aliases.

    5. Build a new BDE alias for the Production database:
      1. Use the menu to select Object / New.
      2. In the Database Driver Name selector, select INTRBASE.
      3. Rename the new alias to BT30600PROD.
      4. Find the SERVER NAME field and paste in the value you captured earlier.
      5. Change USER NAME to 'sysdba'.

    6. Build a new BDE alias for the Test database:
      1. Use the menu to select Object / New.
      2. In the Database Driver Name selector, select INTRBASE.
      3. Rename the new alias to BT30600TEST.
      4. Into the SERVER NAME field, paste the value you captured earlier, and then edit that string to change 'PROD' to 'TEST'.
      5. Change USER NAME to 'sysdba'.
      6. Close the BDE Administrator.

    7. Return to ODBC Data Source Administrator's System DSN tab.
      • If you closed it, use the Windows menu to select Settings / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Data Sources (ODBC).

    8. Build a new ODBC alias for the Production database:
      1. Click Add.
      2. Select Driver 'INTERSOLV InterBase ODBC Driver' and click Finish.
      3. In Data Source Name, type 'BT30600PROD'
      4. In Database Name, paste the same SERVER NAME value you captured earlier.

    9. Build a new ODBC alias for the Test database:
      1. Click Add.
      2. Select Driver 'INTERSOLV InterBase ODBC Driver' and click Finish.
      3. In Data Source Name, type 'BT30600TEST'
      4. Into Database Name, paste the same SERVER NAME value you captured earlier, and then edit that string to change 'PROD' to 'TEST'.
